Basic Brownies

Ingredients

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 stick (½ cup) butter or margarine (not spread)
  • 1 cup (6 oz) semisweet chocolate chips
  • ½ cup packed light-brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup (3 oz) semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350°F.
  2. Line an 8-in. square baking pan with foil, letting foil extend above pan on 2 sides. Coat with nonstick spray.
  3. Whisk flour, cocoa and baking powder in a medium bowl until thoroughly blended.
  4. Melt butter and the 1 cup chocolate chips in a medium saucepan over low heat, stirring as needed.
  5. Remove from heat; whisk in sugar, then eggs and vanilla until blended.
  6. Scrape into flour mixture; stir until smooth.
  7. Stir in the ½ cup chips.
  8. Spread in prepared pan.
  9. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out with moist crumbs attached.
  10. Cool in pan on a wire rack.
  11. Lift foil by ends onto cutting board.
  12. Cut into 16 squares.
