Bottled Apples for pie or apple oat crisp

Ingredients

  • Apples sliced - enough to fill 6 mason quart jars
  • 4.5 cups sugar
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 10 cups water
  • 3 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 cube butter
  • Sliced apples

Instructions

  1. Mix dry ingredients.
  2. Add water, cook until thick and bubbly.
  3. Add lemon juice and butter.
  4. Fill bottles until they are 1/3 full of cooked sauce and stuff remainder with sliced apples.
  5. Steam bath process for 20 minutes.
